According to celebrity news reports, American pop star Britney Spears has chosen a new Arab man to call the shots as she went into hospital for the second time this month.
Spears, 26, was taken from her Los Angeles home by police and rushed to a hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning after a call from her psychiatrist saying that she might be of danger to herself or others.
Celebrity gossip site TMZ reported that Britney legally designated long-time friend Osamah Lutfi to handle her medical decisions, shutting out her own parents.
According to the site, a shouting match took place in the hallways of UCLA Medical Center between Lutfi and Britney's mother, Lynne, after doctors consulted with Lutfi – who goes by the name "Sam" – and not the family about matters relating to Britney's care.
Lutfi is a small-time movie producer and one of Britney's closest friends. The gossip sites do not mention his ethnic background or religion. He has been a part of Britney’s life for much longer than recent paparazzo boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib.
Afghan-born British photographer Ghalib has been linked the pop princess in recent months, even sparking rumors that Britney intends to convert to Islam.
There is said to be bad blood between the two men. Lutfi has publicly stated that a big part of Britney’s problems are that the people close to her have an “incestuous relationship” with the press.
The pop star, whose personal life has veered out of control in the last 12 months, lost custody of her sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, in October, but had been allowed to see them three times a week in court-monitored visits.
Those visiting rights were removed on Jan. 4 after Spears refused to hand back the boys to her ex-husband Kevin Federline and reportedly locked herself in a bathroom in a fit of hysterics.
That episode ended with her being taken away on a stretcher and kept in hospital for two days.
