Failing to secure a job and believing women are always favored when it comes to hiring in his country, an Algerian young man picked a highly unusual way to protest the situation: He cut off the symbol of his manhood, out of desperation, according to a press report Monday.
The 23-year old man was immediately transferred to a hospital in the capital Algiers in a bid to stop the bleeding triggered by his attempt to severe his entire organ, Saudi daily Al-Riyadh reported.
Local press reports quoted the young man as justifying his bizarre move by his repeated attempts to find a job, but failing to do so. He argued that women always succeed where he fails, especially in police administrative jobs.
"I was frustrated and desperate and decided to take revenge on my manhood that was hindering me from getting a job."
The man's father, for his part, expressed fury at what his son did.
"I have never heard of such a perverted behavior." However, he laid the blame on the authorities that are not helping young people: "My son is a victim among thousands, a victim of unemployment and marginalization."
