Several Iranian websites reported that renowned director Narges Kalhor fled from to seek political asylum in Germany.
Narges is the daughter of Mehdi Kalhor, advisor on culture and media affairs of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“My daughter escaped to Germany after she directed a film about torture in Iranian prisons,” Mehdi Kalhor told Mehr News website.
Kalhor also told the Iranian news Agency IRNA he divorced his wife because she opposed Ahmedinejad's regime and criticized the country’s internal affairs.
“I blame the opposition for turning my daughter against the government,” he added.
In Iran, Narges was known as “the girl with the green scarf” for always wearing a green scarf in support of Iran's opposition.
“I have not talked to my father for a whole year,” Narges told the anti-Ahmadinejad news website Khabar Online. “I live with my mother since my dad divorced her.”
Narges added that she directed several films but could not get permission to show them in Iran.
In an interview posted on You Tube and several Western websites, Narges said that her father did not know about her plans to seek asylum in Germany.
