Turkey's national airline will offer passengers flying to the United Arab Emirates the opportunity to also apply for visas at their sales offices, the airline said on Wednesday, in a move hailed as strengthening ties between the two nations.

Passengers travelling from Istanbul to Dubai or Abu Dhabi will be offered the chance to obtain an electronic visa, which will cost $85 and will be valid for 30 days.

“We are pleased to be strengthening the ties between the UAE and Turkey with this valuable service for our Turkish resident customers," the airline's UAE and Sri Lanka director, Adil Hamade, said in a statement, adding the airline looks to increase routes to the UAE.

Turkish Airlines currently runs four flights a week from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Abu Dhabi International Airport, and twice-daily flights from Istanbul to Dubai International Airport.

The statement said the two nation's business and tourism relationship has flourished over the years, resulting in an increase in demand for flights between the two countries.
