The Jordanian government refused Monday receiving any Palestinians deported by Israel from the Occupied Territories under the pretext that they do not have legal residence permits.

A top Jordanian official stressed that Jordan neither received nor will receive Palestinians deported from Palestinian lands occupied by Israel, according to the Jordanian independent newspaper al-Arab al-Yawm.

The reception of deportees involves several risks and we also do not want to contribute to the success of Israeli schemes

The statement came in response to the deportation of three Palestinian prisoners to Jordan on the grounds that they are not legal residents.

“We will not under any circumstances receive anyone who has been deported by Israel,” the source was quoted as saying. “The reception of deportees involves several risks and we also do not want to contribute to the success of Israeli schemes.”

The source reiterated the government’s stance in rejecting resolution number 1950 issued by the Israeli occupation forces in 2009 and whose implementation started on April 13, 2010.

The resolution stipulates the deportation of thousands of Palestinians who live in the West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem and do not carry legal residence permits issued the Israeli government.

The resolution also applied to Palestinians carrying ID cards issued from Gaza and who will be put on trial for illegal entry.

“This resolution is only a modification of resolution number two for the year 1968,” added the Jordanian official. “It is a continuation of the transfer policy that aims at evacuating Palestinians in the West Bank on charges of illegal entry.”

In the long run, the official explained, these policies will trigger a drastic drop in the number of Palestinians in the occupied territories and will, in turn, reinforce the Israeli presence.
