China to build a Burj Khalifa look-a-like
Project is set jointly with Saudi Arabia
China is planning another structure similar to the world’s tallest and UAE’s iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai, a newspaper reported on Saturday.
The new Chinese tower will be located in Shanghai’s Mentougou district, housing a luxurious seven-star hotel, and with an estimated budget costing up to $1.3 billion, a little less than Burj Khalifa’s $1.5 billion.
China’s plan of Burj Khalifa’s look-a-like will be developed jointly with Saudi Arabia, the Khaleej Times reported.
“It has been designed as a stream-lined building like the Khalifa Tower in Dubai, ’’ said Wang Hongzhong, a senior official of the Mentougou district.
The project’s completion date was not disclosed by Hongzhong, and he only added that the tower will be a world-class and would bear the hallmark of luxury.
Its seven start hotel will be located at the end of Chang An avenue, a road near Tiananmen Square.
China has just finished 1968 feet (600-meter) Canton Tower, the latest spectacle in its skyscraper construction spree, ahead of the Asian games it held in 2010, while other countries put such plans at the very end of their priorities post the global financial crisis.
Shanghai also plans to complete a 121-floor tall building by 2014, which is set to overtake its Canton Tower .
Burj Khalif which just celebrated its first anniversary few days ago, stands over 2,716.5 feet (828 meters) soaring height, with more than 160 storeys.
