The Lady and Her Iron

Deep into the center of Al Sayedah Zeinab, a well-known neighborhood in old Cairo we meet Mrs. Sakinah. At 103 years of age she tells us the story of her life and her passion of her line of work.

During the Palestinian war in 1948, Ms. Sakinah’s husband was arrested so she began a career in ironing to financially support herself. Her husband also worked as an ironer before his arrest.

She has lived through three revolutions from the Egyptian Revolution of 1919, to the latest on January 25th.
