The United Nations Security Council was presented with a draft resolution on Wednesday, regarding the current instability in Syria, by the UN Ambassadors of Britain, France, Germany and Portugal.
There is likelihood, however, that Russia and China would veto the resolution as they are unsupportive of the council’s involvement, with concerns that it would further weaken the country.
Despite being an old ally and a major weapons supplier to Syria, Russia stressed that the NATO intervention in Libya is a scenario that should not be repeated.
The latest draft of the resolution held no votes, and would possibly be updated further.
Human rights groups say that the violence in Syria has claimed over a thousand lives in a span of three months.
