On June 26th a young Syrian couple exchanged vows in a secluded refugee camp at the Boynuyogun Camp in Turkey’s Hatay Province. The event was a truly spectacular occasion – traditional folk dances were performed, while youngsters waved both Turkish and Syrian flags.
This news comes in light of the continuing exodus of refugees towards the Turkish border. Human rights groups have estimated that more than 11,000 refugees have fled to Turkey since the siege of Jisr Al Shughour some three weeks ago.
To address this crisis, Syrian authorities are scheduled to host a meeting in Damascus on June 27th. Some of the country’s most renowned intellectuals are said to be participating in the talks, including outspoken critics of the Baathist regime.
