Who is box-office king in the UAE? Johnny Depp of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ of course

Moviegoers in the United Arab Emirates have spent almost 25 million dirhams ($6.8 million) to watch actor Johnny Depp on the silver screen, making him the most reliable box-office draw in the country.

Depp’s fortune peaked when he played Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth and latest installment of the lucrative pirate-film franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” which brought in 13.5 million dirhams at the box office this year.

Depp’s films seized the top spot at theaters in the country as compiled by box-office data from UAE-based film distributors, reported Arabian Business.

Angelina Jolie captured the second spot on the list, followed by Seth Rogen and Jack Black, who were third and fourth. Geoffrey Rush rounded out the top five.
