The Qatari Football Association (QFA) has appointed Brazilian coach Sebastião Lazaroni as the new man in charge of the national team to replace Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac.
Before taking his new post, Lazaroni managed the Qatari soccer club Qatar SC.
Lazaroni held his first training session with the Qatari national team preparing for the third round of the Asian World Cup qualifiers. Sunday’s training was attended by the President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al Than.
Qatar’s soccer governing body has not issued a statement about the signing of Lazaroni.
Former coach Rajevac was replaced following 1-2 away defeat to Vietnam, despite a 3-0 first-leg win home win that pushed Qatar to the third round of the Asian qualifiers.
Rajevac had replaced Bruno Metsu in the aftermath of the 2011 Asian Cup, with the Frenchman sacked after he failed to guide the team past the quarter-finals stage.
