On Thursday, Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, the U.S. military spokesperson in Iraq, told Al Arabiya that he believes Iran is responsible "for supplying the intelligence training and ammunitions" to three terrorists groups, calling them "Iranian militant groups." He listed Kataib, Hezbollah and Asaib Ahl Al Haq, and said they were carrying out missions against US troops.
General Buchanan also said that more US soldiers died in June of this year in Iraq than during any month in the past two years: "15 troops, 14 military and one civilian." Leaving 4,469 soldiers dead.
There are 46,000 U.S. troops currently deployed in Iraq. U.S. and Iraqi leaders agreed in 2008 that all US troops would be withdrawn from the country by December 2011.
