Rebels Urged to Secure Country

In a televised speech aired on Thursday, Libyan rebel military spokesman Ahmed Bani, praised the country’s National Liberation Army for their efforts in wrestling power from Muammar Qaddafi as well the youth who sparked the February 17 uprising.

He urged people to join the revolutionaries and secure the country by protecting air bases and firearm hubs.

On the same day, rebels bombarded the Abu Salim district of the capital, Tripoli, and captured numerous Qaddafi troops after NATO air attacks on a building.

As rebels came in droves, sweeping houses and streets, collecting prisoners, gunfire rang out as residents quickly fled the district.

NATO is alleged to have fired two strikes at a fire station. Several buildings were either wrecked or on fire.

The district is one of the main locations in the capital for Qaddafi loyalists. Some rebels had hoped that the Libyan leader was hiding in one of the buildings close to the infamous Abu Salim prison, along with his sons, but that has yet to be confirmed.
