Laylat Al Qadr Prayers at Al Aqsa

Countless Muslims came together at al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem for overnight prayers on Friday to mark Laylat al-Qadr, believed to be the night that Prophet Mohammed received the first verses of the Quran.

According to most Sunni Muslim historians, Laylat al-Qadr would most probably have occurred on the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan.

Al-Aqsa mosque is significant as it is believed to be the venue of Prophet Mohammed’s ascension to heaven. It is the third most sacred shrine to Muslims.
