18 trainee military officers died in a bomb attack in Algeria on Friday, and at least 20 others wounded.
According to security officials, the soldiers were dining near the military academy, in Cherchell, west of the capital, Algiers, when they heard a bomb explode.
Upon approaching the scene, witnesses say a person with explosives strapped to his body charged his motorcycle towards the soldiers.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, similar incidents in the Islamic Maghreb have been linked to al-Qaeda.
Since 1992, fundamentalists have clashed with security forces after an election favorable to them was nullified. In addition to Friday’s incident, there have been three other attacks since July.
