Libyan Abandoned Weaponry Available to Public

In Libya’s capital Tripoli, people are helping themselves to unguarded wreckage of military installations close to the home to Muammar Qaddafi’s youngest son Khamis on Tuesday.

The area which faced six months of continuous clashes between pro and anti Qaddafi forces was once bombed several times by NATO but is now left abandoned with huge surface-to-air missiles.

An elite military unit led by Khamis was responsible to protect the Libyan leader and the capital city. It was reported on Monday that he had been killed by a NATO airstrike.

However Libyan state television denied in a message posted on the Internet on Tuesday that Khamis Qaddafi, a son of the strongman, was dead as claimed by the rebels.

The country’s ruling interim council says thousands of security personnel are training in the eastern city of Benghazi to restore order in the country.
