Qaddafi Promises to Block Oil Exports
On Thursday, Muammar Qaddafi issued an audio message urging those loyal to him to fight; he also vowed to prevent any oil exports from the country and said "a war of gangs and urban warfare" is guaranteed.
The audio message, broadcast, on Al Arouba and Arrai television news, aired after world leaders agreed to free up billions of dollars of frozen assets to help rebuild Libya.
"You will not be able to pump oil for the sake of your own people. We will not allow this to happen," Qaddafi said.
The statement was released on the 42nd anniversary of Qaddafi’s overthrowing of King Idris, which brought him to power in 1969.
Qaddafi is in hiding and a bounty of $1.6 million hangs over his head. Nonetheless, he also urged his supporters to continue fighting against the National Transitional Council and foreign powers.
"Get ready for a long war that was brought upon you. The occupation cannot continue this war in the long run. The occupation will weaken day by day and the resistance will grow stronger day by day. Get ready for a gang war, a war of gangs, urban warfare, guerrilla warfare and a war of bees that sting and run away and return to sting once more," Qaddafi said.
Qaddafi’s whereabouts are unknown, and he has been on the run since his Tripoli compound was raided, on August 23.
According to the interim National Transitional Council, Qaddafi is said to be hiding with his son Seif al-Islam and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi in Bani Walid, a desert town outside the capital,
All three men are wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes.
