The convoy of Yemen’s defense minister, Mohammed Nasser Ali, was attacked by a suicide bomber in Aden. The attack wounded seven people, but the minister was unharmed.
According to officials, investigators found the body of a 19-year-old inside a damaged car; there are suspicions that he was the bomber, and that al-Qaeda was behind the attack.
Only a month ago, the defense minister’s convoy hit a landmine in the province of Ayban.
Meanwhile, with Yemen’s government in chaos, international powers fear al- Qaeda’s influence could endanger strategic shipping routes.
The country’s capital, Sana’a, has been the site of demonstrations for the past several days, with thousands of people taking to the streets to express their anger at Saleh’s surprise return to the country.
Saleh had been receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia for injuries he received in an attack on his palace in June.
