The directorate general of passports Tuesday warned smugglers of domestic pilgrims not carrying official Haj permits that they would be severely punished. The directorate said they would not hesitate to strictly apply the rules and regulations in this regard.
It asked citizens transporting local pilgrims to make sure that these pilgrims had genuine Haj permits before allowing them on board.
"The punishment includes imprisonment, a fine of SR10,000 for every smuggled pilgrim, or a combination of the two," spokesman of the directorate Lt. Col. Badr Al-Malki told Arab News.
