Residents in Dubai can treat themselves to an exhibition of one of Spain’s most famed artists, Salvador Dali, whose pieces are on display at Opera Gallery.
The exhibition titled "Treasures of Dali" opened this month at one of the growing number of galleries in the United Arab Emirates which is fast getting a reputation for its modern art collection.
Organizers say this is the first event to feature an artist of such caliber in the region.
Lucky visitors can see for themselves one of Dali’s famed pieces, a melting clock, which has made it to the exhibition along with various well-known pieces which includes paintings, jewelry pieces and bronze sculptures
Known for his eccentric personality and long windy moustache, the Spanish artist’s inspiration came from dance, music, science, philosophy and even mythology.
Ammar Kayali, the gallery’s manager said Dali's work in Dubai would only add to the city’s reputation as having a thriving art scene, and visitors will not be disappointed.
"People don’t always know who these modern masters are, there are 1,000 if not hundreds of thousands of artists, but the main masters like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Juan Miro, Marc Chigal -- these big names are considered stars of the art world and bringing any of their works to Dubai, even if it's just one or two pieces, means that a lot of people will come to view their work," he added.
Dali was known for his surreal obsession with the world of dreams which made him one of the world’s most iconic artists.
Most of the work on display in Dubai came from the gallery's own collection and all the pieces are up for sale with prices ranging from $27,000 to $1,380,000.
"Treasures of Dali" is open until the end of November.
