Palestinian youths clashed with Israeli police forces in the Shuafat refugee camp located in East Jerusalem on Thursday.
Police officials were informed of the clashes near the camp’s checkpoint in the afternoon, according to an Israeli police representative.
The youth were protesting against the erection of a barrier and the creation of a checkpoint near the refugee camp; some of the protesters burned an Israeli flag and hurled stones at police.
Eight of the protesters were arrested, and one was apprehended by an undercover police officer.
The Shuafat refugee camp is often the site of tension amid the Arab-Israeli conflict. The camp is within Jerusalem’s expanded borders.
Shuafat has a population of 35,000 residents, and the majority of the camp is serviced by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
