BKIRKI, Lebanon: Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai called Wednesday for making religious education a priority to encourage young Christians to practice their faith.
Rai was speaking during the annual meeting with the heads of orders of monks in Bkirki.
In his speech, Rai praised the role that monks play in educating Christians especially at a time when younger generations are losing touch with their religious education.
“There is extreme ignorance of the Bible and the teachings of the church and our generations are living their lives in a way that has nothing to do with the principles of our church,” Rai said, citing a recent study carried out by university students that found only 30 percent of young Christians practice their faith.
