Two opposing demonstrations were staged on Sunday around the Russian embassy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
In one demonstration, supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gathered to show support of the Russia position and the use of its veto power to block a U.N. resolution on Syria.
Supporters of the Syrian revolution, including Kurdish activists, Syrian expats and members of Al-Jamaa Islamiya, the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, gathered in a second demonstration to protest against the Russian position on Syria. Demonstrators held placards bearing pictures of victims of the violence in Syria.
Lebanese security forces intervened to separate between the two groups.
