From Muscat Daily: Oman to host first women’s prize money tennis event

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has awarded a US$10,000 women’s tournament to the Oman Tennis Association (OTA), which will be held in Muscat from April 16.

The tournament is part of the ITF Women’s Pro Circuit and will be the sultanate's first women’s professional prize-money tennis tournament.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Mutassim al Zadjali, OTA chairman, said, “It is great news that we will be organising, for the first time, a professional women's circuit tournament. It would be nice to see our star player Fatma al Nabhani perform in front of her large number of fans at a full-fledged women's pro event.”

The tournament will conclude a series in the region, said Karim Saadallah, OTA’s technical advisor. “The Oman tournament will be part of a Gulf circuit, beginning in Bahrain with a US$10,000 event on April 2.” A week later, UAE will host the second US$10,000 meet, with Oman hosting the concluding event from April 16
