With the start of the holy month of Ramadan, all eyes are focused on the Sharjah Ramadan Festival 2012, which kicks off on July 26. It is scheduled to run until August 19. It is the region’s most attractive multi-products event.
Being a family-friendly destination and the cultural capital of the region, Sharjah usually attracts a huge number of western and Arab tourists, especially from the neighboring GCC states, during this period, thus providing further impetus to sales.
All technical preparations for the establishment of the festival at its 26th edition is completed and it will be held in coordination and cooperation with a number of departments, agencies and relevant government institutions in Sharjah, Mohammad Ahmad Amin, assistant director-general for economic and International Affairs in the Chamber and the general Coordinator of the festival told Al Arabiya.
“It will be held in an atmosphere full of Islamic spirituality and greatness and majesty of the holy month,” he said.
Amin pointed out that the idea of this festival, which originated 26 years ago, has since achieved remarkable success over the years. He added that it has contributed significantly towards enhancing the status of Sharjah, an emirate famous for hosting industrial and economic events.
The festival is usually promoted in all parks and shopping malls. Other attractions at the festival usually include exhibits of local handicraft products, food court, cookery demonstration by hotels, amusement and fun rides, mini zoo, free health check-up, quiz competitions, workshop and seminars for kids, face-painting, magic shows, raffle draws, prizes and a wide range of activities for the entertainment of the whole family.
Sales usually peak during Sharjah Ramadan Festival, due to the huge discounts that attract people from all over the world.
With 25 successful past editions to its credit, the festival will attempt to generate more interest among its visitors by featuring a Heritage Village this year.
