Sudanese calligrapher, painter, designer and art director, Taj al-Sir Hasan has taken calligraphy to another level. Born in Meroe, Sudan in 1954, Hasan graduated from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts in Khartoum in 1977. He then traveled to London and obtained his Masters degree in arts and design in 1983.
In 1989, Hasan became co-founder of the Calligraphy Division in the Emirates Fine Arts Society in Sharjah and a founding member of the editorial board of the Arabic Letters magazine, issued in Dubai.
He worked as a calligrapher, painter, designer and art director in several academic and media institutions like the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
Having charted the route of his journey, Hasan embraced very unconventional techniques in art that gave him a unique standing.
“This combination has given me the edge to create a piece of art, and hence, change course from the conventional writing with ink to employ various new techniques,” he said.
“The pen’s movement is a very important reflection of the artist’s feelings. I have devised a new style called ‘Al Taji’,” he added.
Hasan’s art pieces takes beholders to another level where the colors are about to speak and letters appear to move.
