Nasser al-Turki began his art at an early age, but has no formal training.
“I did not study art, all things started as a hobby,” he said.
What al-Turki lacked in academic education, he made up for working closely with various artist groups. That led him to show his work in a number of group exhibitions. Now that he is established, he has begun to work more on his own.
“Recently, my focus has been on devising my own initiatives which culminated in launching solo exhibitions,” he said.
Critics praise the use of light in al-Turki’s paintings; They are viewed as a transition stage to light, or a source of light.
He agreed the use of light is a key element in his work.
“Light is the lynchpin of everything. Light might even be inspired from the extreme darkness,” he said.
Watching him at work, there is stunningly nimble movement of al-Turki’s brush, leaving one to wonder whether the hand moves the brush or vice versa.
The artist’s relationship with his painting is based on quiet contemplation, which inspires him to mix panoramic colors that provide a sense of comfort and happiness to the beholder.
“When overwhelmed by my paintings, I close my eyes awhile in order to see the world from a different angle,” he said.
