Emirati artist, sculptor, and teacher, Faiza Mubarak, was mentored by many prominent artists throughout her career.
Under the patronage of the Emirates Foundation, she participated in an arts project for three months in a French contemporary arts center, Le Consortium in the town of Dijon.
The artist soon surprised the French audience when she held her first art exhibition in Paris, as she appeared in her conservative black abaya (cloak), but they became impressed by her masterpieces which contained visual symbols.
“Coming to Paris and holding a solo exhibition has always been a dream and a challenge at the same time,” the Emirati artist said.
Mubarak never attended art school, but learned a lot from the field from a group of artists she referred to as gurus.
“I have been greatly influenced by the refined experience of meeting and interacting with the artists visiting the UAE who left an indelible mark on my career,” she said.
Mubarak believes that when artists pay proper attention to their surroundings, they will find a treasure-trove of symbols.
“My symbols are mostly inspired by books,” she said.
Her passion and dedication for symbols paved the way for a successful project entitled “Birds’ Dialogue” which was sponsored by France.
Mubarak’s experience allows her to think outside the box and use unconventional tools to create her form of art.
The artist is now also a member of the Emirates Foundation for Fine Arts and Association of Architectural Heritage Preservation.
