نشر في:

Iraqi artist Mahmoud Aboud Fahmy was born in 1962, and comes from the historic province of Babylon.

Though he continues to be very much influenced by the rich history of Babylonian art, Fahmy has lived all around the world, in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Norway, and the United Arab Emirates, where he also participated in exhibitions.

The artist’s work is characterized by use of many colors and focuses on the themes of flight and migration.

“Migration, the state of being on the move all the time, instability and the apocalyptic situation in Iraq have been embodied in my paintings. After being immersed in my paintings I saw that the objects I drew resembled flying birds,” he said.

Due to the political situation in his country, the artist moved from Iraq to Russia, and then on to Ukraine, where he studied for six years and graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Kharkov Fine Art Institute. He also undertook a Masters in Fine Art, specializing in easel painting.

After living and studying in Ukraine, Fahmy moved to Dubai, where he became a member of Emirates Fine Arts Society. He teaches at the Emirates Very Special Arts School and works as an illustrator for children’s story books.
