The United Arab Emirates’ national airlines, Etihad Airways, has launched its new Arabic Facebook page on Monday, as a strategy to further reach out for Arabs around the globe.

“Reaching out to our guests through popular social media sites is an increasingly important way of raising the profile of the Etihad Airways brand and communicating news and initiatives,” said Etihad’s Chief commercial Officer Peter Baumgartner in a statement.

The launch of the Facebook page aims to serve as a new platform for a two-way communication with the airline, mainly to target Arab-speaking customers.

With the Facebook page, guests can view the latest news, partake in the airlines’ competition and directly communicate in the Arabic language.

“Our Arabic social media strategy supports the Abu Dhabi government’s vision and commitment to position the capital as a global centre of excellence in Arabic content creation,” added Baumgartner.

Etihad Airlines expects the Arabic Facebook page to bring in more customers as social media is seen as a powerful tool to increase involvement.

In March 2011, the Etihad launched its English language Facebook page and has garnered more than 270,000 ‘likes’.

The airlines also said that it is planning to stretch its efforts to reach out its round-the-clock services to the Arab world by launching an Arabic Etihad Airlines account on Twitter in the coming months.
