Lebanon’s football association postpones matches due to security situation

Lebanon Football Association has decided to postpone the fourth round matches for the first division teams due to the country’s tense security situation.

After a meeting on Monday, the association decided to postpone the matches for a new date until the political and security situation in the country improves.

This is the second time that the association postponed matches for security reasons.

The assassination of a senior intelligence figure after a bombing that killed 70 other civilians in Beirut has prompted unrest in the country. On Monday, around eight Lebanese were killed after sectarian clashes in the coastal city of Tripoli.

Lebanon’s army said on Monday that the country is “going through a critical time, and the level of tension in some areas has reached unprecedented levels.”

On Tuesday there was supposed to be a match between Al-Safa and Ansar Lebanese football clubs to qualify for the Asian Cup but it is now postponed.
