Egyptian midfield striker Mohamed Aboutreika was shortlisted for the best African player award.

Confederation of African Football said Aboutreika, who plays for al-Ahly football club, has been included among five others to be the potential winners for the Player of the Year award, Ahram Online reported Sunday.

The 33-year-old athlete is the only Egyptian contender in the list after CAF dropping Essam al-Hadary from the list.

Joining Aboutreika in the list are TP Mazembe’s Zambian duo Rainford Kalaba and Stoppila Sunzu, Esperance de Tunis’ pair Youssef Msakni and Cameroonian striker Yannick N’Djeng.

The top three will be named in the last week of November and the winner will be announced on December 20 in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

Meanwhile, CAF’s list of the top ten players included Alexander Song, Christoper Katongo, Andre Ayew, Demba Ba, Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Yaya Toure, Younes Belhanda and Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi.
