A video of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu taken during his visit to the crisis-torn Gaza on Tuesday has been widely shared on social media networks, as it shows the official crying upon meeting a Palestinian father whose son killed by an Israeli airstrike.
Davutoglu was part of a delegation which included Arab foreign ministers who visited a Gazan hospital where wounded Palestinians receive medical treatment.
Davutoglu had reportedly told the Anadolu news agency that Hamas and Israel had reached a cease-fire deal, but this conflicted with elusive reports about the alleged ceasefire.
Fighting raged on both sides of Gaza's borders Wednesday despite intensified efforts across the region to thrash out the truce to end a week of violence that has cost 136 Palestinian and five Israeli lives.
Davutoglu left Gaza and crossed into Egypt via the Rafah border crossing following the visit along with his Arab counterparts to show solidarity with Palestinians in the face of the Israeli offensive.
