Al-Ahly’s Abou-Treika signs contract with UAE’s Bani Yas

After recently signing the Swedish winger Christian Wilhelmsson, the UAE club Bani Yas is set to include Egyptian footballer Mohamed Abou-Treika in the team.

Al-Ahly football club star, Mohamed Abou-Treika, has been loaned to Bani Yas in a six-month deal worth $1.2 million, Ahram Online news reported on Thursday.

“Al-Ahly has agreed to send Abou-Treika out on loan because the future of the Egyptian league is still uncertain due to the current political situation in the country,” al-Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“Abou-Treika’s loan will give a good opportunity for new talents to be promoted to the first team,” Abdel-Hafiz added in the statement.

After steering the club to a swarm of titles since his arrival in 2004, the attacking midfielder and second striker for al-Ahly and the Egyptian national football team, Abou-Treika, has earned a cult prominence amongst al-Ahly’s fans.

The Confederation of African Football named the 34-year-old footballer as the best African-based player in 2012, with his league goal scores hiking up to 79 for al-Ahly and finishing as the competition’s top scorer with 18 goals in 2006.

Abou-Treika led the club to claim several accolades, which include seven Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cups and three African Champions League triumphs, to name a few.
