‘Saudi Classico,’ al Ittihad and al Ahli draw

Al Ittihad and al Ahli, major Jeddah football clubs, played their first match this year on Thursday.

The Saudi Classico took place in the city of Makkah due to renovation taking place in the stadium in Jeddah where the two teams usually play.

New faces to Saudi football participated in the big match. The Hungarian George Sandro for al Ittihad and the Brazilian Siezar for al Ahli.

Both teams are struggling in the Saudi League and are trying to restore their image in order to repair the fading relationship with their fans.

The game ended in a tie of 1-1.

Al ittihad's new face, sandro, started the score sheet in the first half with a header.

Al ahli fans were concerned as thier omani player got injured and had to leave 20 minutes before the end of the game.

The rivalry between both clubs goes back 30 years. The two teams played against each other 76 times , al ittihad won 29 matches, al Ahli won 20 and they tied 27 times.
