A new prize

Randa Habib

If I were to receive a letter from the Nobel Prize commission asking me to nominate somebody for a new category, nobility, if I were asked to suggest a person, dead or alive, who would be considered a symbol of nobility in all aspects of his/her life, I would feel a huge responsibility.

I would think of names of the past, Hazaa Al Majali or Wasfi Al Tall, before deciding, but the person I would nominate would probably be a mythical character who embodies all the qualities of a noble and generous individual.
Here are all the points that support my choice: He would be someone who would never bet that his country could become an “alternative homeland.”

He would never use his position for personal gains. He would never fire qualified people from their jobs because of personal vendetta.

He would be a champion in combating corruption. He would never hesitate to fight any wrongdoing. He would believe that all citizens are equal under the law.

He would see his country as a superpower as long as its people are loyal. He would never hit a policeman or a woman. He would never smuggle narcotics or let someone use his car for that purpose.

He would be a fierce fighter against nepotism. He would never promote “agendas” of other countries, particularly if they are at the expense of his own nation.

He would realize the importance of tribal structures and never try to undermine them. He would always speak honestly and frankly to his superiors about reality.
