Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and her French-Canadian model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry have named their new-born baby girl Nahla Ariela Aubry, a name which has both Arabic and Hebrew origins.

The name Nahla is an Arabic word and translates as honeybee, while Ariela is a Hebrew name and means lioness of God.

Berry, 41, gave birth to her first child in Los Angeles on March 16. Although the reason behind the name was not released, the new mother admitted she hadn’t picked a name up until the last minute.

"We didn't have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital. For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her," Berry told 'Access Hollywood'.

Berry, who won an Oscar in 2002 for her lead role in "Monster's Ball," adopted the daughter of her second husband, singer Eric Benet. The couple broke up in 2003 after less than three years of marriage.
