MBC Chairman honored at Arab pioneers festival

The Festival of Arab Pioneers and Innovators on Saturday honored the chairman of MBC Group Sheikh Walid Ibrahim al-Ibrahim for his leading role in the development of Arab media and his support for Arab talents.

The chairman of MBC Group Sheikh Ibrahim was chosen as the "Personality of the Festival” at its fifth edition, which was hosted by the Qatari capital Doha, the capital of Arab culture for the year 2010.

Sheikh Ibrahim was awarded an honorary shield and a certificate of appreciation for the role he and MBC Group played in shaping contemporary Arab media and for the support he has always given to Arab pioneers.

Culture Minister Dr. Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari, congratulated Sheikh Ibrahim for the award and for the remarkable success of MBC channels throughout the past two decades, which was culminated with the launch of the new channel MBC Drama.

In the speech after receiving the award, Sheikh Ibrahim stressed the importance of strengthening the relationship between innovators in the Arab world and acquainting the youth with the importance of innovation and taking initiatives.

“The real challenge lies in the translation of innovations into a tangible reality and taking the work of pioneers from the theoretical to the practical level,” he added.

“This happens when entrepreneurs step in and fund those talents so that their ideas turn into projects that contribute to the progress of our region,” he said.

Sheikh Ibrahim highlighted the role of the entertainment industry in boosting the economy.

“It also creates job opportunities for the youths as well as for the innovators themselves.”

The Arab Pioneers and Innovators Festival and Forum is held annually under the auspices of the Arab League in a different Arab city.

This year it was held in Doha under the auspices of Prince Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who was represented by Culture Minister Dr. Kuwari.

In the honorary celebration, Dr. Nancy Bakir delivered a speech on behalf of Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in which she stressed that the Arab League charter calls for the cooperation between Arab countries in different fields.

“It also encourages cooperation in the field of culture and development,” she added. “This festival is a cooperation charter between pioneers and innovators.”

The festival's Founder and Secretary General Abdou Mohammad Blan addressed the participants on the importance of cooperation among pioneers as well as between them and the relevant official bodies.

He cited the example of the Qatari Ministry of Culture and the full support it has given to ensure the success of this festival.
