Dubai sees highest number of film-shoot requests

Bollywoods first ‘superhero’ movie sequel, Krish, might be filmed in Dubai as talks are undergoing to seal the deal.

Director and producers of Krish were out and about, scouting for locations in Dubai, the UAE-based The National newspaper reported Jamal al-Sharif, managing director of Dubai Media City and Dubai Studio City, saying.

"We're in initial talks ... with the director, and producer, and the production company in Dubai who is going to be handling them," al-Sharif who oversees Location Approval Services told The National. "They came and met with us about two weeks back," he added.

Up to 500 crew members would work on the film in Dubai if negotiations are successful, with the film shoot starting in October. He did not immediately specify whether the negotiations are for all or part of the film to be made in Dubai.

"They're planning to be here for about four months. They're looking into scouting [for locations] right now," he added. "They're talking about big budgets."

Regional unrest

According to al-Sharif, there had been an increase in the number of film-shoot requests in Dubai, which he attributed partly to the regional unrest.

More than 100 requests had been made in February, the highest number since 2008, he said.

"There is an increase on the number of productions happening in town, probably because of the regional situation," he said. "Some TV programs have been directed to be shot in Dubai, which were going to take place in other Arab countries."

Several big-budget movies have been made in the UAE, including Kingdom, Syriana, and the fourth instalment of Mission: Impossible, which stars Tom Cruise.
