Zardari says political unrest could not reach Pakistan

Says respecting GCC decision to dispatch troops to Bahrain

Pakistan is a different country and we cannot compare it to other regional countries that have political unrest, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari told Al Arabiya.

Zardari didn't think that such political unrest could reach Pakistan as it is a different country that has a strong parliament and a stable democracy. "We are concerned about the instability in the region," he said in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya.

The Pakistani president pointed out that the Gulf region used to be very stable and secure. "In the present scenario in Bahrain, there should be a kind of understanding…people should not be provoked into any action," he said, pointing out that Pakistan respects the GCC decision to dispatch troops to quell the unrest in Bahrain. He added that it is a regional issue and not an international one, noting that international issue usually take very long time to be settled and set Kashmir problem as an example.

Zardari touched on the U.S. drone attacks which are being continually condemned by the Pakistani government.
