Misrata Oil Refinery Bombed as Rebels Move Westwards

Six rockets hit an oil refinery at the Libyan city of Misrata controlled by rebels opposing Muammar Gaddafi on June 13.

The rockets appeared to have hit the refinery's power generators and did not strike its oil storage facilities.

Libyan rebels edged slowly beyond their western stronghold of Misrata towards Tripoli, but faced supply shortages after gunfire from Muammar Gaddafi forces hit a key refinery in the city.

Fighting over Zlitan, a neighbouring town controlled by Gaddafi's forces would probably bring the rebellion closer to the capital Tripoli, the Libyan leader's stronghold which lies 200 km west of Misrata.
