From the Gulf News: Unicef highlights Arab Spring’s effect on children

A revolution is no place for a child yet in the Arab Spring, many children and young people have been caught in the crossfire, tortured or killed on the spot.

"Children and young people have been at the heart of the Arab spring. they placed a key role in instigating it, using the power of social media to rally their peers and mobilise support.

"But they have also been among its first ‘victims,' seeing their rights violated in the name of security." Shahida Azfar, Unicef Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), said.
